About the Position
FABSCRAP is a start-up nonprofit rethinking textile waste in the fashion, interior design, and entertainment industries in NYC. We provide convenient pickup of unwanted fabric and actively engage the local creative community in reuse.
This Reuse Coordinator will focus on making connections with our community by sharing their fabric knowledge and love for reuse! You will be responsible for: in-person sales at our Brooklyn warehouse and occasionally at off-site events, processing and merchandising incoming material for reuse, customer outreach, and phenomenal customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Looking for stellar customer service skills.
Must have confident knowledge in identifying fabric weaves and knits by name, and their project uses.
Prior retail experience is preferred
Prior experience using Shopify is preferred
Experience with customer outreach and engagement is a plus
Extreme attention to detail and organization means you’ll fit in great here!
Excellent time management and prioritization skills for efficient but accurate work.

A. Reuse Sales
Running point of sale from start to finish (measuring/cutting a customer’s purchase and completing the transaction at the register)
Operating cash registers, managing financial transactions, and balancing drawers, preparing deposits
Analyzing sales figures and interpret sales trends, regularly reported, to facilitate future planning
Setting and tracking sales goals with Community Director for Brooklyn Warehouse.
Tracking all reuse data and analyzing it in making decisions.
Creating and preparing for promotions and opportunities to increase sales, with particular focus on our annual sales of the year like Small Business Weekend.
Communicating what material is moving/most popular to other outlets so it can be highlighted for sale.
Focusing on loss prevention routines and procedures
Assist other Team Members involved in the sale of fabric.
B. Reuse Room Management
Maintaining the presentation of the sales floor, products, signage, and displays by managing stock levels
Developing and refining an efficient system to categorize, price, and store incoming material, including filtering out material that should be shredded.
Communicating what supplies and material are needed to effectively oversee the Reuse Room
Opening and Closing procedures of the FABSCRAP Reuse Room
Keeping the FABSCRAP shopping and register areas impeccably clean – floors swept, surfaces clear and wiped down, product and fixtures dusted regularly, trash and recycling removed when needed
Assisting with off-site reuse sales as needed
C. Customer Service
Greeting customers, responding to questions, understanding their needs and sharing appropriate suggestions
Turning any frustrated customer to a happy customer with empathy and tact
Responding to email inquiries about our fabric, and making suggestions to produce sales.
Nurture relationships with shoppers.
D. Build External Partnerships
Work with Community Lead for active outreach to our local community via email newsletters or social media to increase our impact and recruit shoppers.
Triage all requests for free fabric and arrange for logistics of pick up and/or shipping fabric to partners
E. Manage Interns and Reuse Volunteers
Delegate and oversee tasks
Facilitate intern projects and education
Communicate with management to address any intern or Reuse Volunteer issues
F) Budget-Focus
Finding creative ways to drive traffic to our website, online store, Brooklyn Warehouse, or events and/or sell additional product. This includes bringing in donations and fundraising, particularly during biggest sales, our anniversary, and end-of-year giving campaigns.
G) Mission-Focus
A successful Reuse Coordinator will make sure every visitor to our warehouse - our shoppers, volunteers and our community partners - understand the details of our mission, our impact, our system, our locations, our events, and how to access fabric. Everyone should feel important for their contribution to our industry-changing work, so much so that they feel informed and empowered to share their experience with others!
H) Teamwork-Focus
Collaborating with all members of the FABSCRAP Team to create a safe, supportive, and productive workplace. Including a commitment to direct and genuine conflict resolution and an open and honest contribution to FABSCRAP’s developing diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
OTHER ACTIVITIES (AS NEEDED)
Working at FABSCRAP events
Finding and attending events on behalf of FABSCRAP
Additional data management
Availability when extra hands are needed in other Departments
Providing content for social media, website, and annual reports.
Represent FABSCRAP appropriately, honestly, and with a positive attitude
Provide strategic feedback often to help FABSCRAP grow and succeed
Schedule
Start Date: ASAP
Part Time: 3 days per week - any combination of days Tuesdays to Saturdays, 9:30am-5:30pm
This is an in-person position with no remote work.

Compensation
$20 per hour
