About the Position

FABSCRAP is a start-up nonprofit rethinking textile waste in the fashion, interior design, and entertainment industries in NYC. We provide convenient pickup of unwanted fabric and actively engage the local creative community in reuse.

Receivers are the starting point and muscle of our operations! This person will receive fabric at our loading dock, weight it, keep accurate records for our recycling partners, and maintain storage space. This is a super physical role with repeat lifting and need to operate warehouse equipment.

Reports to: Warehouse Manager

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Ideal candidate has an interest for sustainable systems and improving FABSCRAP’s material flow

  • Focused on optimizing material processing

  • Has a unique ability to strategize spaces

  • Comfortable with the physical requirements of the role including repeat lifting of 30-50lbs, and operating warehouse equipment like pallet jacks, baler, and stacker.

  • Previous warehouse experience a plus

  • Confident in Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, etc

  • Extreme attention to detail and organization means you’ll fit in great here!

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills for efficient but accurate work.

  • A) Processing Incoming Material

    1. Accept and organize deliveries to maintain a clean and efficient system for processing and data collection.

    2. Weigh incoming materials and collect brand data; involves repetitive lifting (~45 lbs). Safety equipment must be worn while lifting.

    3. Track bag inventory and reset tracking systems as needed.

    4. Determine fabrics for reuse/redistribution or immediate shredding.

    5. Maintain security of proprietary materials.

    6. Collaborate with the Warehouse Manager and Service Lead for weekly deliveries, communicating real-time changes.

    B) Assisting the Warehouse Manager

    1. Assist in preparing donations/shipments for partners.

    2. Support Shred Days and prepare for waste and recycling schedules.

    3. Collaborate to strategize material flow and processing

    4. Assist the sorting team when required.

    C) Maintaining FABSCRAP Warehouse Facilities and Equipment

    1. Plan for and organize warehouse processing areas and storage spaces for efficiency

    2. Ensure equipment is in good repair and facilities are clean and organized.

    3. Communicate when equipment purchases are necessary.

    D) Budget-Focus

    • Find creative ways to reduce operational costs and increase revenue, including participating in fundraising activities during key campaigns.

    E) Mission-Focus

    • Understand and embody Fabscrap’s mission and recognize individual contributions to industry-changing work.

    F) Teamwork-Focus

    • Collaborate with team members to foster a safe, supportive, and productive workplace, contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to wear a back brace while lifting, protective gloves while using scissors and rotary cutters, stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. This may involve walking, standing for extended periods. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently throughout the day.

    Other Activities (As Needed):

    • Work at FABSCRAP events and support additional data management tasks.

    • Provide support across departments as needed.

    • Represent FABSCRAP positively and honest.

    • Offer strategic feedback to support growth.

    • Contribute content for social media, website, and reports.

Schedule

Start Date: ASAP

Part Time: 2-3 days per week

This is an in-person position with no remote work.

Compensation

$22 per hour
