FABSCRAP is a start-up nonprofit rethinking textile waste in the fashion, interior design, and entertainment industries in NYC. We provide convenient pickup of unwanted fabric and actively engage the local creative community in reuse.

The Reuse Coordinator is our leader at the new FABSCRAP Reuse Shop (opening summer 2019)! Under the direction of the Director of Reuse, you will be responsible for all operations at the Shop, including: systems for sales and managing stock, customer service, and most importantly, sharing our mission!

We’re growing rapidly and need administrative, operational, and strategic assistance. We’re a small team and everyone contributes beyond their core responsibilities. Teamwork and initiative are a must! Because of the start-up nature of our work, things move quickly, and you’ll have real ownership to define and refine procedures. We are excited for someone to be creative in this role and grow with us.


A) Sales Systems

a. Operating cash registers, managing financial transactions, and balancing drawers

b. Analyzing sales figures and interpret sales trends to set goals, produce reports, contribute to planning

c. Creating promotions and opportunities to increase sales

B) Managing Stock

a. Maintaining the presentation of the sales floor, products, signage, and displays by managing stock levels

b. Developing and refining an efficient system to categorize, price, and store incoming material, including filtering out material that should be sent back to the warehouse.

c. Communicating what supplies, materials, and/or maintenance are needed to effectively oversee the shop

C) Customer Service

a. Greeting customers, responding to questions, understanding their needs and sharing appropriate suggestions

b. Turning any frustrated customer to a happy customer with empathy and tact

c. Facilitating customer loyalty and recognizing/recruiting committed volunteers

D) Mission-Focus

Shopping at FABSCRAP means so much more than purchasing fabric from any other retailer. A successful Reuse Coordinator will make sure every customer understands our mission, why using recovered fabric is important, and leave them feeling special for contributing to our industry-changing work, so much so that they feel informed and empowered to share their experience with others!


  • Assisting at Pop-Up sales

  • Working at FABSCRAP events

  • Assisting with data management

  • Availability when extra hands are needed at the FABSCRAP warehouse

  • Represent FABSCRAP appropriately, honestly, and with a positive attitude

  • Provide strategic feedback often to help FABSCRAP grow and succeed


  • Undergraduate Degree in related field (sustainability, supply chain, fashion, textiles, design, data management, logistics, marketing)

  • Must be have prior experience in cash handling

  • Must have prior customer service experience

  • Must have prior experience in sales

  • Experience in visual merchandising a plus

  • Must be an active listener and an honest, open over-communicator

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and delegate

  • Goal-oriented and self-motivated

  • Extreme attention to detail and organization, bordering on compulsive, means you’ll fit in great here!

  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills - efficient but accurate work is required!

  • This role requires regular lifting of at least 40-50 pounds and lots of time on your feet

Full Time (9:30AM-6:30PM)

weekend work required, but with prior notice

$32,000 - $35,000

based on experience

we expect compensation to increase with the success of our new Shop!
