NYTM: Talking Textiles

We were thrilled to be included in TALKING TEXTILES, a full-day seminar about textiles for fashion and interiors that explores the important trends, fabrics, yarns and techniques for the seasons to come.

Hosted by Lidewij Edelkoort, Dean of Hybrid Studies and featuring a long list of inspiring speakers, this seminar promoted textile education and celebrated September as the first ever New York Textile Month!

FABSCRAP on Mind Body Green

Did you catch the great article about FABSCRAP on Mind Body Green?

"It was such an obvious need to Schreiber that she decided to quit her job and found FabScrap. 'It just made sense to me. I know how to do the pickups, I know how to do the processing, and what the recycling world would entail. Then it was just learning the design side. Fashion and trash aren't usually part of the same conversation, so someone needed to connect those dots.'"

Textile Tuesday at the BF+DA

Once each month, the BF+DA invites a sustainable textile vendor to come present their materials and processes. July’s Textile Tuesday will feature Jessica Schreiber, founder of FABSCRAP.

Waste management and fashion are not usually part of the same conversation. However, textiles make up 6% of New York City’s residential waste stream, and are largely unaddressed by commercial waste haulers. What are options do consumers have? What responsibilities to businesses have? What is the current condition of the end-use markets? Jessica Schreiber, who for 5 years managed New York City’s textile recycling programs, will discuss the local and industrial challenges of textile reuse and recycling, and introduce her newly launched organization, FABSCRAP.
